Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When she was young, her carnival barker father passed away and left her mother without a choice other than to work as a cleaning woman and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was born in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in school. Following only two school years the young woman left to pursue an acting career. Her journey was not without obstacles. the path she chose to pursue. In New York she was hired to take photos for a magazine about crime, but no theatrical jobs were forthcoming. In New York, she volunteered at a bar as the check-in lady before resigning after a few months and moving to Boston. She made ends meet as an usherette during the day while at night performing with the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
